This Saturday, December 29, 2018, Puebla officially announced the signing of 34-year-old forward Matias Alustiza ahead of the 2019 Clausura tournament. ” El Chavo” previously played with Puebla from the 2012 Apertura to the 2014 Clausura then again from the 2015 Clausura to the 2016 Apertura.

The Argentine striker played with Atlas in 2017 and with Pumas UNAM in 2018, but will now be back for his third stint with La Franja. Alustiza is not the same player he was in his first and second stints with Los Camoteros, but he has not shown major signs of regression either.

The veteran forward scored 24 total goals with Atlas and Pumas UNAM from 2017 to 2018 and is still a player with a lot to offer. Alustiza scored three goals with Pumas in the 2018 Apertura tournament, despite starting just one game and scored another three in the Copa MX competition.

“El Chavo” is a historic player for La Franja as he has scored 57 total goals in all competitions for Puebla in over 100 games. Those 57 goals put the Argentine as the eighth-best goalscorer in Los Camoteros‘ history, just two goals behind Muricy Ramalho in seventh place.

Alustiza is also the only Puebla player to score in a Copa Libertadores game and is a huge fan favorite among the Camoteros‘ fanbase. The 34-year-old brings plenty of experience to Enrique Meza’s team and can still be a consistent scorer and a playmaker as well.

Puebla has a solid team heading into the 2019 Clausura and should be especially dangerous going forward with Lucas Cavallini, Omar Fernandez and now Alustiza.
