Guido Rodriguez may be the x-factor for Club America in the midfield and the backline is also a strong component of the team with Bruno Valdez and Emanuel Aguilera. Including the playoffs, Aguilera and Valdez have combined for a total of 12 goals scored, a number that most top strikers cannot even get to in Mexico.
Cruz Azul finished first in the Liga MX 2018 Apertura and also finished with the best defense in the league with just 13 goals conceded. La Maquina breezed past Queretaro in the quarterfinals, but tied 1-1 against Monterrey in the semifinals with Cruz Azul’s first-place finish being the decisive factor.
Pedro Caixinha also has a solid midfield led by Ivan Marcone along with a backline led by Pablo Aguilar and also has a much more consistent offense than Club America. Edgar Mendez, Roberto Alvarado, Elias Hernandez and Milton Caraglio have all been solid this season and should be able to challenge Agustin Marchesin and America’s backline.
