Dorados de Sinaloa defeated Venados de Yucatan 1-0 in Week 14 of the Ascenso MX 2018 Apertura to secure a playoff spot in Mexico’s second-tier league. Diego Maradona’s impact since becoming manager of the Sinaloa-based club is more than evident as the team has made a total transformation.
Dorados had no wins, three draws and three losses when the Argentine icon took over and making the playoffs seemed like an unattainable goal. Since Maradona has taken charge, El Gran Pez has won six of seven games and is now a legitimate contender to take the Ascenso MX title.
The team from Culiacan had also scored just two goals before Maradona’s appointment, but now Dorados has scored 13 goals in seven games and has only conceded five goals in this span as well. Los Sinaloenses have been especially impressive at home as they have outscored opponents 8-2 in three games at the Estadio Banorte with “El Diez” as the manager.
Dorados de Sinaloa host Atletico San Luis at the Estadio Banorte to wrap up the regular season this weekend and could potentially finish as high as fifth place on the Ascenso MX table. El Gran Pez is currently in seventh place with 21 points and will try to go into La Liguilla with momentum.
