Former Club America striker Enrique Esqueda shines in Indian League debut

San Luis vs Leon

Enrique Esqueda was once dubbed as a wonderkid that would shine with Club America and the Mexico national team. His career has taken many twists and turns since then as he tried to maintain his form in the Liga MX with teams like Pachuca, Atlas, Tigres UANL, Veracruz, and Chiapas, but ultimately failed to do so.

Esqueda’s last team in Mexico was Jaguares de Chiapas, where he was part of a team that relegated and ultimately disappeared. “El Paleta” decided to take a different route in his career this year as he signed with Polish team Arka Gdynia, where he scored two goals in eight games.

The 30-year-old Mexican forward still had the fight to keep his career alive and made an even more intriguing move to East Bengal FC in India’s top-flight league. Esqueda made his debut with The Red and Gold Brigade this past Saturday and did so in outstanding fashion.

“Paleta” scored two goals that led to East Bengal’s 2-0 win against Neroca in the opening game of the I-League season. Esqueda made local headlines in India and was even dubbed as the “Mexican Hero” after his spectacular start with his new team.
