Chivas was also eliminated from the Copa MX, though at least it lost to Pumas 1-3, a respected Liga MX side. Chivas took a different approach in the lead up to the Super Clasico, allowing fans and media to interact with its players. Hoping that the positive vibes will translate to a good result on the pitch.
Chivas currently sits in 11th place with 14 points, a loss against America would seriously endanger any opportunities the team might have to make it to the playoffs. A win would move it into 8th place, while a draw would put it tied with four other teams for the 8th placed spot. In summary, Chivas cannot lose against America, they need the point(s).
America has had a much better season, and lies in 3rd place with 20 points, a win could see them move up to the first place, and one step closer to securing the home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Piojo has done a good job with his team, and he should be able to guide his players to a very important win over Chivas. Nonetheless, America will have to do this without Diego Lainez, who is still injured.
