Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he is hoping that striker Roberto Firmino will be fit when the Reds take on PSG in a Champions League clash on Tuesday.

The Brazilian international was unfortunate to have suffered an eye injury during a clash with Jan Vertonghen during the Reds’ victory against Tottenham last weekend.

Following the incident, Firmino had to be substituted and taken to hospital.

Firmino is a key player for the Reds up front and it will surely be a blow if he is unavailable to play against PSG.  The 26-year-old is one of the most powerful number 9’s in World football and without him, Klopp will have to make drastic changes to his starting XI.

Klopp’s side will be aiming for a win against the French giants, as they will be playing on home soil.

Whilst the Reds will be favorites to advance from Group C along with PSG, they cannot afford to slip up, as they also share the group with Italian giants Napoli, who are led by former Champions League winning manager Carlo Ancelotti.

When discussing whether Firmino will be fit to play against PSG, Klopp said as quoted by Sky Sports: “No, not definitely. If we played today, no chance but we all hope that there is a chance until tomorrow.

“So that is good news, that he will be close for the game, because when everybody saw the picture after the game we were all shocked.

“When we had first-time contact with him again he was in hospital, it was a big relief for all of us.

“[It is] painful. Nobody wants to have that. Nobody needs that. He will be fine. We only don’t know exactly when.

“So another 30 hours roundabout until the game and we will see how it develops.”
