Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is happy for his team-mate Fabinho.

Fabinho earned his first competitive start of the season during Brazil’s 2-0 win over the United States on Saturday.

This would have been a relief for the Liverpool man. Since moving from Monaco to the Reds during the summer transfer window, things have not exactly gone according to plan for him. He has not appeared in any of the four Premier League games that the Merseyside giants have played in so far and as Liverpool have been great in midfield, he may not even play when the Reds take on Tottenham next weekend.

The goals on the day were scored by Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino and Neymar. Firmino was appointed as the Selecao’s first choice striker following the axing of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus. Firmino certainly grabbed the opportunity with both hands and delivered a good display while leading the line for the soccer-mad nation. He will now need to carry on scoring the goals in order to be the first-choice forward for next year’s Copa America which will be held in Brazil as well as the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Liverpool fans can hope that the playing time which Fabinho got while on international duty can help him to gain confidence which will serve him well during the rest of the reason.

While reflecting on Fabinho, Alisson said: “Fabinho did very well, as did all the defence.

“He played in a position to which he’s no longer accustomed, and today went very well, winning the penalty and helping out with the marking.”
