After a very disappointing display at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Egypt decided to part ways with Hector Cuper and hire Mexican manager Javier Aguirre. The 59-year-old is set to make his debut with The Pharaohs this Saturday, September 8, 2018, as Egypt hosts Niger in an Africa Cup of Nations qualification match.

“El Vasco” called up a strong squad featuring players like Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, Mohamed El Neny of Arsenal and Ahmed El Mohamady of Aston Villa. Out of the 28 players Aguirre called up, nine play in Europe, 15 play in Egypt, two play in the MLS and two play in the middle east.

Niger has a very limited squad, but does have a point in these qualifiers with a draw against Swaziland in the first round of matches. Egypt fell to Tunisia in the first round of matches and this game is definitely a must-win against a weaker team at home.

This will be Aguirre’s first time managing in Africa and it will be interesting to see what impact the Mexican manager has on this team. FutnSoccer predicts a 3-1 win for Egypt in this game in what should be a promising start to Aguirre’s tenure with The Pharaohs.
