Liverpool’s Fabinho is set to be handed his first start of the season. It will, however, not be at club level, but when Brazil play against the United States in an international friendly on Saturday, according to a report published by The Liverpool Echo.

Fabinho started his career as a right-back, but was converted to a defensive midfielder at Ligue 1 side Monaco by Leonardo Jardim.

It was in the midfield position that the Brazil international established himself as a world-class talent and helped his club to win the French top-flight during the 2016/17 season.

It was Fabinho’s impressive displays in France which ultimately led to Jurgen Klopp swooping for him during the summer transfer window.

Things have not gone according to plan for Fabinho at Anfield. He has yet to make his debut for Klopp’s side, after four Premier League games. The Reds have so far won all of their League games played this season and it will not even be surprising if the 24-year-old is not even named in his club’s match-day squad to play against Tottenham in two weeks time.

Despite a lack of first-team action so far this season, Fabinho was selected by Tite for the Brazil squad due to his experience at right-back.

He is almost likely to start against the Americans, as the other option which Tite selected at right-back (Fagner) has picked up an injury and has since been replaced by Eder Militao of Porto.

Perhaps, Fabinho can use the opportunity that he gets against the Stars and Stripes to regain some confidence as well as to try and convince Klopp to give him game time going forward.

Both Brazil and the US will be aiming to use the aim to experiment as they prepare for the future. Brazil are building a squad for next year’s Copa America, while the US are aiming to rebuild following the disappointment of not qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.
