Wolves forward Raul Jimenez has spoken out about why his potential move to West Ham in 2015 failed to go through.
The Hammers were strongly linked with the signature of the 27-year-old back in 2015, while he was on the books of Atletico Madrid in Spain.
It was widely believed that a deal was going to go ahead and that a move ended up falling through as Jimenez had missed his flight to undergo a medical.
Now Jimenez has revealed that there are no truth to those rumors.
During an interview with The Express, he said: “No, no, that’s not what really happened. I don’t know why anyone has said that.
“The way it was, was that one day I had a proposal from West Ham and the next day Benfica and that was it.
“Benfica wanted to buy me but West Ham was a loan deal. So that was the thing. It wasn’t anything to do with sleep.”
Jimenez arrived at Wolves during the summer on a loan deal from Benfica. He started life in the EPL on a bang by scoring during Wolves opening day 2-2 draw against Everton.
Despite having just been promoted to the Premier League this season, Wolves could potentially launch a challenge for a spot on the top half of the standings this term.
During the past two weeks, Nuno’s men have been particularly impressive. They managed an impressive 1-1 draw against reigning Premier League Champions Manchester City two weeks ago, before claiming a 1-0 win against West Ham this weekend.
Considering West Ham’s results so far this season, Jimenez may be relieved that he did not join the East Londoners.
The Hammers have been erratic in terms of their displays over recent years. They are currently bottom of the standings and are the only top-flight team that has yet to record a single point as yet. Their 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Saturday means that they have thus far lost all four games that they have played in the League this season.
