This Thursday, August 30, 2018, it was officially announced by Atletico Nacional that Jorge Almiron was no longer going to serve as the manager of the team. This came to not much surprise given the Colombian giants’ recent departure in the round of 16 in the Copa Libertadores against Argentine club Atletico Tucuman.
Almiron was specifically brought in to try and construct a successful Copa Libertadores run, but this was far from it. Nacional’s performance in the Liga Aguila was also not the best with three wins, two draws and a loss, currently seven points behind league leaders La Equidad.
The team from Medellin was thriving in the Copa Aguila as it will face Junior F.C. in the quarterfinal stage. However, this was not enough to secure Almiron’s job and now Hernan Dario Herrera has been named as the interim coach for El Verde.

Herrera played with Los Verdolagas from 1976-1984 and has experience coaching teams in the Colombian second division like Real Cartagena and Deportivo Pasto as well as America de Cali in the Liga Aguila.
The 60-year-old was currently serving as a youth coach for Nacional and will make his debut on the sidelines against Jaguares de Cordoba away from home this Sunday in Week 7 of the Liga Aguila.
