Arsenal have had a less than spectacular start under new manager Unai Emery. They lost their first game of the season 2-0 against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City and followed that up with a 3-2 defeat against Chelsea last weekend.
One man who was expected to start during the defeat against Chelsea is Lucas Torreira, who joined Arsenal from Italian side Sampdoria during the summer transfer window.
Torreira is a player with tremendous potential and Arsenal fans will be hoping that he adapts to life at the Emirates and goes on to become a Premier League star. However, he surprisingly did not start the game against Chelsea, and after seeing his performance after he was introduced into the match during the second half, it is not hard to see why.
While Arsenal were searching for a winner while the score was deadlocked at 2-2, Torreira clearly struggled to cope with the demands of the Premier League, as he frequently lost possession.
After failing to meet a pass from team-mate Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Torreira allowed Chelsea star Eden Hazard to get possession.
The destructive Hazard subsequently went on to set up team-mate Marcos Alonso who scored the winner during the 81st winner.
The Mirror has claimed that after the match, Torreira was reprimanded in the dressing room. After the match, Gunners assistant boss Juan Carlos Carcedo went onto the pitch and reprimanded Torreira for his costly mistake.
This is certainly not the start to life in the EPL that Torreira would have been looking for. There is, however, a lot of time left this season and hopefully, he will learn from his mistake and become a star.
