Manchester City may need to sign a new goalkeeper on an emergency loan deal.

Although English clubs can not buy any new players following the August 9 deadline day, they may still loan out players or bring in new players on loan till the end of the month.

The Citizens’ second-choice keeper, Claudio Bravo, could be set to miss the rest of the season after injuring his Achilles tendon, thus causing an immediate need for a replacement keeper.

Recent reports have linked Barcelona second-choice keeper Jasper Cillessen with a move to the Etihad. The 29-year-old Cillessen is open to leaving Barcelona, as he wants to play more regularly. While reports have been linking Cilessen with a move to the Etihad as cover for Ederson, Spanish source SPORT has claimed that he is not an option for Pep Guardiola’s team.

Cilessen boasts 40 caps for the Dutch national team and made 101 Eredivisie appearances before earning a surprise move to Barcelona in 2016. He has never managed to dispatch Marc Andre Ter Stegen as first-choice keeper for the Blaugrana, and has only managed to make two La Liga appearances since arriving at the Camp Nou.

He served as first-choice goalkeeper during the 2014 World Cup for the Netherlands, as the Oranje reached the semi-finals of that tournament in Brazil. Unfortunately for him, Cilessen will have to fight for a spot with Barcelona, as reports deem a move to Manchester City unlikely at this point.

Manchester City will continue their search, though should be able to find a suitable keeper to fill the spot.
