In what will be a boost for Liverpool fans, striker Roberto Firmino has indicated that he is willing to stay at the club for a long time amidst reports of interest from Spanish giants Barcelona.
Firmino is a world-class talent and has formed one of the best attacking trios in Europe with team-mates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Reports of interest from the Blaugrana first emerged in April and this led to Liverpool rewarding the Brazilian with a new contract.
Liverpool has lost stars in the past due to their lack of significant trophy success during recent years. Fernando Torres left the club in 2011 during the best time of his career and joined Chelsea in search of silverware. Uruguay international Luis Suarez did the same in 2014 for the same reason while also in top form.
Firmino was a key part of the Liverpool side last season and netted 27 times in all competitions for his club. He was rather unfortunate due to the back that his team-mate Salah who finished as the Premier League’s top-scorer has been receiving the most praise from the media.
It appears as though Firmino loves Liverpool and is prepared to stay at the club for many years. There is cause for optimism among Reds fans this season that they can win the top-flight for the first time since 1989. This will do their chances of keeping Firmino for the long-term good.
Firmino told The Mirror: “When people ask what my ambitions are for the rest of my career, I always say that I live in the present.
“I don’t look at more than what we have in front of us in the next few days.
“I’m only interested in Liverpool and winning everything I can with them. We have the best supporters in the world here, they are amazing – and there are Liverpool fans in every part of the planet.
“So we know what it would mean to be champions.”
