This Friday, August 17, 2018 (5:00 PM Pacific) Veracruz will host Chivas de Guadalajara at the Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente for a game in the fifth round of matches in the Liga MX 2018 Apertura. The game will be televised on ESPN Deportes and UniMas and is available online via FuboTV. Both teams are currently struggling on and off the field, but should provide a hard-fought match in the port city.

Update: Chivas vs Veracruz, both teams have released their confirmed lineup for Friday night’s battle in the port of Veracruz. They’re obviously going with their strongest lineups, each trying to break out of a slump.

Veracruz is coming off its first win in the 2018 Apertura, a 2-1 away win against Puebla, but now has some tremendous off the field issues. Former manager “Memo” Vazquez was fired and this created a domino effect in the Liga MX that has now created a league-wide tax-evasion investigation.

Owner Fidel Kuri even dropped the information that managers in Veracruz do not sign contracts and has inclusively made himself look very unprofessional on live television interviews. The team itself has a limited squad and will now be coached by Chilean Manager Juvenal Olmos, who has not coached in 11 years. The standout player for Los Tiburones Rojos is Argentine striker Cristian Menendez, who scored both of Veracruz’s goals in its win against Puebla last week.

Chivas de Guadalajara is a team with plenty of controversies as well that includes uninspiring ownership and lack of investment with the club. Fans are furious after the ownership let go of key players like Rodolfo Pizarro and Oswaldo Alanis and has failed to bring in suitable replacements. This includes Jose Cardozo, the current manager that was brought in to replace Matias Almeyda.

It has been reported that Los Rojiblancos have serious financial issues and that became apparent recently when more than a few products from advertisers were on display in Jose Cardozo’s press conference. Chivas is becoming a laughing stock off the field and on it as the team only has one point after four games played this season. This will be a tough away match for Los Tapatios and they will be missing their captain Carlos Salcido, who has been ruled out of the clash with an injury.

Prediction

Both teams have limited squads and the home-field advantage may give Veracruz an advantage with the humidity in the port city. FutnSoccer predicts a 2-2 draw in what has potential to be a very high-scoring match with the weak defenses of both sides.
