Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho has predicted that Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero will challenge Liverpool star Mohamed Salah in the race to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot award this season.
This season’s Premier League promises to be one of the most competitive seasons that we have seen in recent history. There will be plenty of shocks and surprises, and it is uncertain to predict who will finish in the top six. Specially, when clubs such as West Ham, and Wolverhampton Wanderers all forked out sums of money which would have been considered astronomical a few years ago, to bolster their sides ahead of this season.
Salah had a breakout season last term in his debut year with the Reds. The Egypt international ended Kane’s two-season domination of the League’s Golden Boot award, as he went on to score 32 goals in the top-flight for the Reds.
Salah has firmly established himself as one of the best players in World football, however, this did not stop skeptics and haters from saying that he could prove to be a one season wonder and not deliver this term.
However, the 26-year-old opened his account for this season already, as he netted the opener for his club last weekend as they went on to beat West Ham 4-0.
If the Reds are to win the Premier League this season, Salah will likely have to carry on his form from last season. Ronaldinho predicts that Kane and Aguero will challenge the former Roma and Chelsea man’s scoring prowess this term.
“Mohamed Salah is brilliant and has the opportunity to become the top scorer of the Premier League for a second consecutive season,” Ronaldinho told Pyramids TV as per Kingfut.
“He will have a hard time competing for the Golden Boot due to the presence of outstanding players such as Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane.”
Ronaldinho is perhaps right. Kane is one of the best strikers in the World and is on a high, after winning the Golden Boot at this summer’s 2018 World Cup. The England man scored 6 goals, as the Three Lions went on to reach the semi-finals.
Aguero is still a quality striker and there are not many finishers who are more lethal than him in the game. However, at 30-years-old, it remains to be seen whether the Argentina international can still deliver on a regular basis and out-shine his younger team-mate Gabriel Jesus.
