This Tuesday, August 14, 2018 (7:00 PM Pacific) Veracruz will host Club America at the Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente for a game in the fourth round of matches in the 2018 Apertura edition of the Copa MX. Both teams are living very different moments from one another and Club America is the heavy favorite to come away with the three points.
Veracruz is coming off an impressive 2-1 win against Puebla away from home in league play, but is now entering crisis mode. The now former head coach, Guillermo Vazquez announced his resignation from Los Escualos late Monday night. Vazquez had saved the team from relegation and had been doing a solid job with his limited roster.
Hugo Chavez has now taken over as the interim head coach as the team figures out what to do with this sudden change. Los Tiburones Rojos’ roster is not comparable to Club America’s, but there should still be some experience on the field with players like Luis Miguel Noriega and Enrique Perez.
Club America is coming off a dominant 3-0 win against Monterrey in league play, but did tie 0-0 against Dorados de Sinaloa in its last Copa MX match. Some of the main players to watch include Carlos Vargas, Joe Corona, Henry Martin and Renato Ibarra.
Emanuel Aguilera scored two goals against Veracruz the first time the two teams met in the Copa MX and could also be a key player in this match. A lot of Miguel Herrera’s reserve and bench players could easily be consistent Liga MX starters for Veracruz, making this matchup a mismatch.
Prediction
FutnSoccer predicts a 3-1 win for Club America in a game that should be straightforward with a clear winner in sight. Veracruz will have the home-field advantage, but will also carry the major concern of being without “Memo” Vazquez to lead the charge.
