This Wednesday, August 7, 2018 (5:00 PM Pacific) Tigres UANL will host Tapachula at the Estadio Universitario for a game in the third round of matches of the 2018 Apertura edition of the Copa MX. The game is set to be a mismatch, but could easily end in a shocking result given previous results by Tigres in this competition.

Tigres UANL is off to a solid start in the Liga MX 2018 Apertura with two wins from three games, but had a disastrous start to this Copa MX tournament with a 2-1 loss to San Luis. Ricardo Ferretti did use plenty of youngsters in that match, but players like Eduardo Vargas, Juninho, Ismael Sosa and Enner Valencia also started in it.

Ferretti is likely to deploy a similar lineup for this game despite the urgency to get the win to stay alive in the competition. San Luis now leads Group 9 with four points and a loss would knock the team from Nuevo Leon out of the tournament.

Cafetaleros de Tapachula are off to a horrible start to the Ascenso MX 2018 Apertura tournament with just two points from three games. The team from Chiapas is coming off a scoreless draw against Correcaminos in league play and tied 1-1 against San Luis in this Copa MX competition.

Irving Rubirosa is not likely to use any of his key players for this clash and players like veteran striker Mario Ortiz or Brazilian midfielder Paulo Rocha will be the standouts.

Prediction

The game might not be as simple as it appears for “Tuca” and company, but Tigres does have the edge with the better squad and the territorial advantage. FutnSoccer predicts a 2-1 win for Tigres UANL in what could be a very hard-fought gamer at the Estadio Universitario.
