This Tuesday, August 7, 2018 (5:00 PM Pacific) Santos Laguna will host Celaya at the Estadio TSM Corona for a game in the third round of matches in the 2018 Apertura edition of the Copa MX. Both teams have no points so far and will be looking to get a win to match group leaders Pachuca.
Santos Laguna is coming off a 2-0 win against Puebla at home in the Liga MX, but did suffer a 2-0 loss against Pachuca in its first Copa MX game last week. Robert Siboldi did use some intriguing players in that game against Pachuca like Jonathan Orozco, Martin Nervo, Diego de Buen, Javier Cortez and Eduardo Herrera. Nervo and Orozco did play against Puebla over the weekend so are unlikely to receive the start in this match.
However, the other players mentioned before along with Ulises Rivas, Gerardo Arteaga and Alejandro Castro could be in Siboldi’s starting 11. Santos Laguna does have the better team and has potential going forward with a target man like “Lalo” Herrera up top.
Celaya also suffered a 2-0 loss to Pachuca, but in Week 1 of the competition and is coming off a 1-0 loss to Tampico Madero in the Ascenso MX. Los Toros have been struggling in Mexico’s second-tier division with two losses and a draw in three games so far. The team is led by Enrique Meza Jr., the son of legendary Mexican manager Enrique Meza.
Celaya does have some former Liga MX players that may feature in the game like Angel Reyna, Rodolfo Salinas and Nestor Calderon. The team from Guanajuato has some intriguing players, but will surely struggle against a tough opponent away from home.
Prediction
Santos Laguna should have the edge here, especially with the home-field advantage and with the stronger side. FutnSoccer predicts a 1-0 win for Los Guerreros in what should be a pretty straightforward match the Estadio Corona TSM.
