This Saturday, August 4, 2018 (7:06 PM Pacific) Monterrey will host Queretaro at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer for a game in the third round of matches in the Liga MX 2018 Apertura. This seems to be one of the biggest mismatches this weekend as there is a clear favorite to take the three points in Nuevo Leon.
This will be Monterrey’s home-opener as Los Rayados had two away wins to start the 2018 Apertura season. Diego Alonso’s team first defeated Pachuca 1-0 at the Estadio Hidalgo then went on to get a 2-0 victory against Leon at the Nou Camp.
Rayados have always played better at home with the territorial advantage at the BBVA Bancomer and should be able to get a win here. Monterrey also has a much better team than Queretaro, especially in the defense with players like Nicolas Sanchez, Leonel Vangioni and Jose Maria Basanta.
Queretaro has a decent team with some exciting player going forward like Edson Puch, Daniel Villalva and Camilo Sanvezzo. However, its defense is very inconsistent and often times has to heavily rely on Brazilian goalkeeper Tiago Volpi.
The team has a bit more flair with new manager Rafael Puente Jr., but the offense is still yet to reach its full potential. Queretaro is coming off a solid 1-0 win against Pachuca, but did tie in Week 1 to a very limited Atlas side.
Prediction
FutnSoccer predicts a 3-1 win for Monterrey as its home-field advantage, solid defense and explosive attack should be enough to get past Los Gallos Blancos. Rafael Puente Jr.’s tactics do leave his defense exposed and this may not be ideal against a team like Monterrey.
