This Thursday, August 2, Brazilian team Palmeiras officially announced the signing of 25-year-old Paraguayan centre-back Gustavo Gomez from Italian side AC Milan. The deal is a one-year loan, but Palmeiras is forced to buy Gomez for six million euros at the end of the loan spell.
There were several links and rumors placing the 25-year-old with Argentine team Boca Juniors, but he finally ended up in Sao Paulo with Luiz Felipe Scolari. Gomez has played professionally since 2011 and he has played with Club Libertad in his native Paraguay, Lanus in Argentina and most recently with AC Milan in Italy.
Gomez’s time in the Serie A was not the most successful as he only received 16 total appearances with The Red and Blacks in a span of two years. Gomez has still received callups to the Paraguay national team and will now look to remain relevant at the club level as well.

Palmeiras had been looking for a decent replacement for Yerry Mina ever since his departure to Barcelona and Gomez could be a good fit. Gomez is not the quickest or most mobile player, but his solid physical presence has made him a solid centre-back over the years.
The Paraguayan defender was definitely looking for a change in scenery and the level of play will be very competitive with the Copa Libertadores as well.
