This Wednesday, August 1, 2018 (7:00 PM Pacific) Monterrey will host Puebla at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer for a game in the second round of matches in the 2018 Apertura edition of the Copa MX. Puebla currently leads Group 1 of the tournament, but Monterrey could takeover with a favorable result from this match.
Monterrey is currently undefeated in the Liga MX with six points from two games and will now look for a promising start in the Copa MX. Rayados is coming off a 2-0 win against Leon away from home, but will now play in front of the home fans for two consecutive games. Diego Alonso has plenty of depth in his squad and may use players like Alfonso Gonzalez and Jesus Molina for this match.
A player to keep an eye on is Luis Madrigal, who scored 18 goals in the Ascenso MX over the past two tournaments. He is still trying to get more minutes in the Liga MX and will surely get the start in this competition. Monterrey will have the home-field advantage and does have a solid squad as they are the favorites heading into this encounter.
Puebla is coming off a 2-1 win against Toluca in the Liga MX and also defeated Merida 1-0 in Week 1 of the Copa MX. Francisco Acuna scored the goal that led to La Franja’s victory against Venados, but he is unlikely to get the start in this match as he played against Toluca over the weekend.
Enrique Meza still has some talented players like Jonathan Espericueta, Pablo Gonzalez and Luis Robles that may get the start against Rayados. Meza might try to play more conservatively away from home, which has been consistent since he has taken charge of Puebla.
Prediction
FutnSoccer predicts a 2-1 win for Monterrey over Puebla in what should be a very intriguing matchup at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer. Both teams have some momentum heading into this clash and that should make for a very good clash in Nuevo Leon.
