Toronto vs Tigres
Toronto vs Tigres CONCACAF Champions League 2018

This Wednesday, March 7, 2018 (5:00 PM Pacific) Toronto FC will host Tigres UANL at BMO Field in the first leg of a quarterfinal match in the CONCACAF Champions League. Both sides are among the top teams in this CONCACAF region and should provide a highly entertaining match in Canada.

Toronto FC is the current MLS Cup 2017 winner and also reached the 2016 season finale. The current roster is considered by some people as the best-ever MLS squad with players like Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, Victor Vazquez and Sebastian Giovinco. The standout on the team has to be Giovinco as he can create opportunities out of nothing and also be a clinical finisher.

The Italian forward is the Canadian team’s all-time goalscorer and was the joint-top scorer for Toronto in the 2017 MLS season with 17 goals. Greg Vanney’s team defeated the Colorado Rapids to get to this quarterfinal stage but is coming from a rough 2-0 loss to the Columbus Crew in their MLS season opener. Most of Vanney’s key players played in that game over the weekend and there could be some rotations for this match.

Tigres UANL is coming from a 2-0 away win against Veracruz in the Liga MX and defeated Costa Rican club Herediano by an aggregate score of 5-3 to get to this quarterfinal stage. Ricardo Ferretti counts with a powerhouse of players that can all be very dangerous in this game. Andre-Pierre Gignac is the standout player as he has four goals in Tigres’ last three Liga MX games.

Enner Valencia could also be a key player as he scored a brace to lead Los Felinos past Herediano. Top to bottom Tigres UANL does have a better team than Toronto FC and should be able to get to the semifinal stage of this competition.

Toronto FC vs Tigres UANL Prediction

This is the most enticing matchup during the quarterfinal stage of the CCL as it will be a clash between the best team from the MLS and the best team from the Liga MX. Toronto has some intriguing players but is missing the defensive solidarity that Tigres has. FutnSoccer predicts a narrow 2-1 win for the current Liga MX champions in this first leg at BMO Field.
