The America vs Xolos Tijuana Liga MX Clausura 2018 match will take place this Saturday, February 24, 2018 (7:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Both teams are coming in to this match after winning their mid-week CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16 away matches. Furthermore, both are strong contenders for the liguilla, and we should see top quality soccer from two teams fighting for domestic and international glory.

Update 2/24/18 (6:40 PM PST): We have the confirmed starting lineups for the America vs Xolos match:

AMÉRICA: Agustín Marchesín, Carlos Vargas, Víctor Aguilera, Bruno Valdez, Paul Aguilar, Guido Rodríguez, William da Silva, Andrés Ibargüen, Jérémy Ménez, Renato Ibarra y Oribe Peralta.
TIJUANA: Manuel Lajud, Pablo Aguilar, Damián Pérez, Michael Orozco, Hiram Muñoz, Jesús Chávez, Damián Musto, José Rivero, Juan Lucero, Julio Angulo, Rubio Méndez.

Piojo Herrera has done a marvelous job with Club America his second time back at the club. The former Xolos boss has kept America undefeated and in first place of the Liga MX, getting four wins and four draws. Furthermore, Herrera has got America cruising through the CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16, winning the first leg against Saprissa 5-1.

America boasts the best offense in the Liga MX, with 15 goals scored in 8 matches. They also have the second best defense, with just 6 goals allowed. Piojo has created a well oiled machine that constantly pressures rivals, maintains possession, and scores almost at will. Xolos will have a very difficult time during their visit to the Estadio Azteca.

Xolos are still adjusting to new Head Coach Diego Cocca, who came in to replace Piojo Herrera, the now Club America boss that turned Xolos into a Liga MX title contender. Cocca has done a decent job with Xolos so far, moving the team up to the 8th spot in the Liga MX table, barely clinging to the last liguilla spot.

Cocca has done a tremendous job with the defense, boasting the Liga MX’s least goals allowed with just 5. However, on the other side of the field, Xolos have barely scored 7 goals in 8 matches. Gustavo Bou’s injury has further weakened Tijuana’s attack, as Cocca now needs to rely on Lucero, a striker who doesn’t boast the same quality as Bou.

America vs Xolos Tijuana Prediction

America is the best team in the Liga MX, the only undefeated team left in the competition, with a strong defense and an amazing offense. Xolos has not been a bad team, their strengths definitely lie on the defensive side, and Cocca will hope to slink away with a 0-0 draw at the Azteca. FutnSoccer predicts a decisive 2-0 victory for Club America, as Xolos simply do not possess the offensive firepower to strike back against the best team in the Liga MX.
