Newcastle boss hails this player following victory over Manchester United

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez was felt delighted by the performance of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka who made his debut during the Magpies delightful 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday.

After Rob Eliott and Karl Darlow were both less than impressive in goal during the first-half of the season, the 29-year-old Dubravka arrived at the Magpies last month.

Dubravka started off life at the Toon Army on a brilliant note and helped his side to claim a victory over Jose Mourinho’s in-form side.

He pulled off a superb save to deny Anthony Martial and also deflected a shot from Jesse Lingard round his post.

“He was doing well,” said United manager Benitez following the match. “It was his first game, and to keep a clean sheet against Manchester United is fantastic for him.

“But it wasn’t just about the goalkeeper. It was about everybody working together and working as hard as they did today and trying to defend.

“At the same time, now, we have more competition in goal, and that’s always positive for the team.”
