Don Goodman has said that Aston Villa’s recent brilliant run of form is not surprising as Steve Bruce is managing the team.
Despite having overseen many problems at the team, Bruce has impressively led the team this season after they made a slow start to the campaign and their brilliant run of form has seen them move up to third place on the Championship standings.
They will be hoping to now catch up with second place Derby County and win automatic promotion to the top-flight next season.
The Villains will be confident that they can defeat Birmingham City this weekend as they are the better side on paper.
“If we were looking at this game a few weeks ago it would be a no-brainer to say that Aston Villa should be winning, but Steve Cotterill has really got Birmingham at it in the last couple of weeks and it will be much more of a test,” said Goodman on Sky Sports’ EFL Matters.
“Obviously Aston Villa are at home and on a fantastic run of form, and they’ve started beating the teams around them as well for the first time this season, with the Bristol City and Middlesbrough results springing to mind.
“But why should we be surprised? Any team that Steve Bruce takes over in the Championship will end up near the top.”
