According to the British publication, Inside Futbol, Barcelona have joined the race for the highly-rated Schalke 04 midfielder Max Meyer, who has also been chased by Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur this winter.
The 22-year-old prodigy is set to leave Veltins-Arena at the end of the season once his contract with the Miners expires. The Schalke management has already offered Mayer a contract extension and a substantial wage increase, but the player has hesitated to respond.
The German giants have already lost Leon Goretzka to Bayern Munich, and they are reluctant to lose another bright prospect.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the talented playmaker, considering him as a perfect replacement for the outgoing Emre Can, while Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to replace Moussa Dembele in the center of the field.
However, the German newspaper, Bild, claim that eight teams are currently trying to capture Meyer. It appears that Barcelona have already initiated first contacts with player’s entourage, trying to beat the competition.
