EPL giants reportedly tried to hijack Liverpool deal for star playmaker

The Daily Express have reported Arsenal have been following AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar, who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool during the winter transfer window.

According to the Daily Mirror, Arsene Wenger has identified the 22-year-old forward as a perfect replacement for Alexis Sanchez who joined Manchester United. But, the French giants refused to sell their best player in the middle of the season, as they are chasing promotion to the Champions League.

The left-footed playmaker was expected to take Philippe Coutinho’s place in the Reds’ team, but Jurgen Klopp eventually decided to wait until the summer to crack the cash box.

Some recent reports have suggested that the Gunners won’t give up on Bordeaux prodigy Malcom, which could clear the way for the Merseyside club to bring Lemar at Anfield.

Liverpool and Arsenal both suffered significant changes this January, and lost their key players, Coutinho and Sanchez, without finding an adequate cover for them.

Therefore, the Premier League giants will have to invest huge money next summer to keep up the tempo with Manchester United and Manchester City.
