Sunderland boss Coleman questions motivation of this player
Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has questioned whether Jack Rodwell still loves playing football.
Rodwell has fallen out of favour at Sunderland and is reportedly the clubs highest earning, earning £70,000-a-week.
The Black Cats reportedly offered him the opportunity to terminate his contract last month and join a new club but Rodwell rejected this offer and opted to remain at the Stadium of Light, declaring that he is available for selection.
Sunderland are in danger of relegation and are cash-strapped and they would have been hoping to part ways with Rodwell so that his salary could be diverted elsewhere.
Coleman said: “I’ve not yet had a knock on the door to say, ‘I am ready, I want to play football’.
“Jack had the chance to go out this window. We said, ‘Yeah’. There was another club. I can’t name the club.
“But Jack turned that opportunity down. I am not here to motivate this person or that person.”
