Virgil Van Dijk’s arrival at Anfield reportedly crushed big deadline transfer

The Daily Express have broadcasted the news from the Daily Mirror stating that Liverpool’s decision to spend £75 million to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton destroyed Riyad Mahrez’s hopes of joining Manchester City from Leicester City this winter.

According to some reports, the Citizens were near to secure the signature of the Algerian winger, but an astronomical figure the Reds have spent for a centre-back changed Leicester’s valuation of their star player.

The Foxes had slapped £80 million price tag on Mahrez, which caused the collapse of the deal, and so ruined player’s dream.

The 26-year-old has also been approached by the Merseysiders after the departure of Philippe Coutinho, but it appears that Jurgen Klopp never made a concrete move to complete the transfer.

Considering market prices, Leicester will hardly lower their claims during the summer, and all interested clubs will have to meet their demands to take Mahrez away from the King Power Stadium.
