According to the British outlet Inside Futbol, Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has announced that Leeds United officials have approached club’s top goalscorer Jack Marriott, trying to lure him to Elland Road earlier this January.
MacAnthony has also stated that the Posh have no intention of letting the 23-year-old bomber leave London Road Stadium until the end of the season, as they are trying to secure the Championship promotion.
Along with Marcus Maddison, Marriott has been on the radar of several Championship clubs this winter, after stellar performances in the League One.
“I can confirm a foreign director/Employee called Barry and verbally threw a figure at him to which it was a no thanks and asked Barry to call back. That’s the truth.
“2 new champ clubs enquired today as expected as he’d be high on most champ clubs list going into last 24 hours of window… the plan is to keep all our best players unless something head turning happens etc”, Darragh said.
The Whites manager Thomas Christiansen has been resolute in his desire to sign a top-class striker after disappointing displays from Jay-Roy Grot and rather inconsistent Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
However, after spending £7 million on new players, he will have to wait until the summer to reinforce his attacking ranks. The January transfer window is nearing its end, and Peterborough will manage to keep their best players in all likelihood.
