England boss says this West Ham youngster could make the Three Lions national team

England national team manager Gareth Southgate has admitted that West Ham youngster Declan Rice is in line for an international call-up.

Though the centre-back has represented the Republic of Ireland at U-21 level and even been called up to the senior side, he has yet to make an appearance for the senior side which means that he remains eligible to represent the Three Lions.

The 19-year old is showing tremendous potential, having earned regular game time with the Hammers and Southgate could call him up for national team duty. He has gone on to make 13 Premier League appearances, of which four came as a starter.

“He [Rice] is somebody whom we know with our technical department,” Southgate is quoted as saying by Football London.

“We are across every young player and, of course, there are plenty of young players with dual nationality. Wales have several players who have been in our system and who have got caps.

“So we are always looking. We are aware of him, we are aware of his situation. It’s more one for Dan Ashworth as technical director than for me as senior manager.”
