“Sizeable offer” for Newcastle star is need to let him leave for London suitors

As per Chronicle Live, Newcastle United will resist West Ham’s advances for midfielder Jonjo Shelvey as manager Rafa Benitez isn’t keen on losing one of his top players this window.

Having brought in Kenedy on loan from Chelsea, the Magpies are looking to recruit 3 more signings, with squad reinforcements necessary for the relegation scrap.

Shelvey, 25, has been linked with a return to West Ham, where he started his youth career, since December, and many reports claim the on-going interest has reached an advanced stage.

The Englishman arrived Tyneside from Swansea for £12million in January 2016, but it will take a sizeable offer – one Newcastle cannot reject – to see him leave for West Ham.

Shelvey has featured in all games the club have played this year and remains very integral to their chances of playing Premier League football next season.

Newcastle’s loss will be West Ham’s gain should they allow the highly-experienced midfield leave for a relegation rival, but it’s highly unlikely that a deal will be happening unless a tempting offer is tabled.
