As per the Scottish Sun, Rangers centre-back David Bates has emerged as a transfer target for English Championship side Sunderland, with the Black Cats looking to agree a pre-contract deal ahead of a free move by summer.
The 21-year-old has just 6 months left on his current deal, and with negotiations for an extension stalling, an exit could be on the cards.
Bates isn’t the only player Rangers risk losing for nothing at the end of the season, as the contracts of the trio of Danny Wilson, Kenny Miller and Niko Kranjcar also have just 6 months left on them.
Bates has been key to Rangers’ league runners-up ambition this term, featuring in 14 games and putting in man-of-the-match performances in recent games against Celtic and Aberdeen.
The aforementioned trio has also racked up 56 league appearances between them this term, and Rangers will do well to tie them down to another contract.
