Report- Newcastle £10million-rated target can be signed for free by summer

According to Italian newspaper Il Mattino, Newcastle United won’t be able to land Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina this transfer window, even for the £10million they are willing to pay.

The Serie A giants currently lead the way in the Italian topflight with a point and aren’t ready to let go of the 35-year-old midway through a very promising campaign.

Reina has just 5 months left on his deal and will be available for free by summer, but Napoli are willing to lose him for nothing by then as opposed to cashing in on him this month.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez wants another goalie, having not been convinced with the performances of Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot, and the former Liverpool shotstopper and World Cup winner remains a top target of his.

Given that Reina will likely be available for free by summer, the Toons will be striking a huge bargain if they are able to emerge top of the race in his pursuit.

He brings a lot of experience to the fore and can help win points for Newcastle, as they look to turn themselves into a top-half-of-the-table team going forward.
