Newcastle identifies £29million-rated loan target needed in attack- Report

Newcastle have struggled in front of goals since returning to the English Premier League, scoring just 21 goals in 23 games.

Manager Rafa Benitez badly wants a striker this transfer window, and is said, per reports, to be still very much keen on Leicester City striker Islam Slimani.

The 29-year-old, Leicester’s £29million-record signing, has only started a Premier League game since September, and could be allowed to leave on loan till the end of the campaign.

Benitez wanted a similar deal last summer, and the club must endeavor to complete it this time around.

Despite the poor return of a goal and assist in 10 substitute appearances and 2 starts, Slimani could be the solution to Newcastle’s goalscoring shortcomings.

Given his impressive record of 27 league goals in 33 games in his last season with Sporting Lisbon, a run of games – something hard to come by at Leicester – could be all the Algeria international needs to finally hit the ground running.

Newcastle can make 2 loan signings this month, and Slimani must be number 1, as his arrival could be difference between relegation and staying up.
