Leeds star defender reportedly linked with Premier League team

Leeds vs Port Vale

According to Swedish news outlet Fotbollskanalen, Leeds United centre-back Pontus Jansson is still wanted by Southampton.

The Premier League outfit were keen on the Sweden international back in the summer transfer window, and with Virgil van Dijk gone to Liverpool in a £72million deal, the Saints have renewed interests in him.

Jansson signed a permanent deal with Leeds last summer, following a successful season-long loan from Torino, and has become arguably the club’s most important player, having made the league’s Team of the Season.

His agent Martin Dahlin has claimed the 26-year-old has no intention of departing Elland Road midway through the season, with helping Leeds promote to the topflight his only focus.

However, anything can’t be ruled out by summer if the Whites will still play Championship football next term.

Southampton also have cash to splash and could still tempt the player and club with an irresistible offer this current window.

Jansson remains integral to Leeds’ plans this term and going forward, but Premier League football could play a huge role on his choice of club next season.
