Popular bookmakers Ladbrokes have installed West Ham as clear favorites in the race for the signature of Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
The 25-year-old has been routinely linked with a Saint James’ Park exit since December, with claims that he is open to returning to east London having started out his career as a youngster in the Hammers academy.
Shelvey hasn’t been on top form for the Magpies this Premier League season, failing to register a goal or assist in 17 appearances thus far.
With manager Rafa Benitez likely to be forced to sell in order to buy, a big-money offer from West Ham for the former Liverpool star could tempt him into letting the England international leave.
Hammers boss David Moyes is in need of quality legs in his midfield, and the £12million-rated Shelvey fits the bill.
He has enough experience in the topflight and boasts of a wide range of passing currently missing in the middle of the park at the London Stadium.
