According to reports, Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario has turned down the opportunity to join West Ham on loan for the second half of the season.
Mario has struggled to earn regular first-team action with Inter during the first half of the season and is keen to leave the club on loan in order to boost his chances of winning selection to the Portugal national team that will play at the 2018 world cup.
Inter were happy to sanction a loan move to West Ham for the 24-year-old. However it now appears that he has rejected a move to the Hammers due to the East London clubs current standing in the Premier League and also as he prefers to play for a side that can offer him the chance to play European football.
Mario was part of the Portugal squad which won Euro 2016 and has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United.
