Rangers blow as they risk losing top target to Welsh club

According to the Daily Record, Rangers have had a £300,000 bid for Hamilton Academical midfielder Greg Docherty knocked back, as only at least £600,000 will be enough to have a chance of landing their man.

Rangers boss Graeme Murty already confirmed his side’s interest in bringing the 21-year-old to Ibrox this month, but they now risk losing him as it remains to be seen if they are willing to meet Accies’ asking price.

Welsh duo Cardiff and Swansea are also keen on Docherty, and are both financially capable of splashing the cash on their man.

Preston have also entered the race for the signature of the Scotland youth international, while Millwall are still very much keen, leaving Rangers’ chances looking slimmer.

The lure of moving to England top 2 divisions could sway Docherty into opting to leave Scotland, while Hamilton won’t hesitate to sanction a deal once their valuation of their star player is met.

Rangers first 4 signings of the winter window are loan deals, and it doesn’t seem there is enough cash in the transfer kitty to spend double of their budget on the youngster.
