Newcastle boss reportedly has no intention of signing World Cup winner

According to reports, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has “no intention” of signing Pepe Reina this month despite his continued admiration of the veteran goalkeeper.

The Magpies boss is keen to bring up to four players to his squad this month as he looks to push the club away from the relegation zone, however he does not yet know what his transfer budget will be.

Benitez reportedly considered the possibility of signing Reina who he had previously worked with at Liverpool and Napoli, but in the end he opted against signing the Spaniard due to the finances that would be involved.

Recent reports have suggested that Benitez was looking to bring in a new experienced goalkeeper and was considering signing Reina who has been valued at around £10 million.

Meanwhile other keepers that Newcastle have been linked with include Real Madrid’s reserve shot-stopper Kiko Casilla as well as Sparta Prague’s Martin Dubravka.
