Liverpool reportedly looking to sign Portuguese winger to replace Coutinho

Sky Sports have broadcasted the news from Portugal outfit Correio da Manha about possible interest from Liverpool in Sporting Lisbon’ player Gelson Martins as a potential replacement for departed Philippe Coutinho.

The 22-year-old Portuguese international is a pacey winger with excellent technical skills. He is known for his acceleration and dribbling abilities. Martins is a versatile player who can play on both wings, and as a right-back when needed.

According to the same reports, Liverpool seemed to offer a £80,000-week salary to Martins, who is tempted to accept the proposal.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is very actively trying to find a high-quality forward to enhance his team’ chances both in Champions League and the domestic championship, but Gelson Martins won’t be able to participate in Europe elite competition as he already featured with Sporting.

Various players have been connected with Liverpool since Coutinho left the club to join Barcelona, so this should be taken with a grain of salt.
