Newcastle reportedly planning £8million winter swoop for former Liverpool defender

According to the Birmingham Mail, Newcastle United want to bring £8million-rated Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Conor Coady to St. James’ Park this month.

The Toons need quality additions all around the pitch, and the former Liverpool defensive midfielder, who has played at the back this term for the Championship outfit, is being looked out.

Coady has been a huge reason Wolves are winning games on a tear as they look to seal automatic Premier League promotion in style, marshalling the defence in the 3-man centre-back system set up by Portuguese boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Given how solid the 24-year-old has been, he is the type of signing that can get Newcastle ticking at the back and in deep midfield.

With Jonjo Shelvey routinely linked with a January exit, Coady could come in as a perfect replacement.

However, with EPL football assured in the coming months, it’s almost impossible to imagine Wolves letting one of their most important men leave at the moment and for the quoted price.

That Newcastle aren’t guaranteed of their topflight status come May would also dissuade Coady – someone eagerly anticipating playing against the big boys again having last tasted the action in 2013 with the Reds.
