According to HITC, Celtic and Newcastle United may consider a swap deal, as both teams are looking to add a new defender to their respective squads.
Media in the UK has suggested Chancel Mbemba as a possible Celtic target during the last couple of days, while Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has been a long-time admirer of the former Dinamo Zagreb defender Jozo Simunovic.
Since both players are destined to leave their teams in January, a possible swap could be the ideal solution for all parties involved.
Simunovic lost his place in the first-team this season next to Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig. Mbemba, on the other hand, struggled to find his place since the arrival of Rafa Benitez.
Both players got permission to look for new clubs this winter, and a potential exchange could spare them from trouble.
Spanish manager already tried to bring Simunovic to St James Park last summer without success, but the transfer could be completed during the winter.
