Rangers blow as 40-goal summer target rejects Ibrox switch for English outfit

Rangers have been left with their tails between their legs as top summer target and erstwhile Hearts winger Jamie Walker has moved to English League One side Wigan Athletic.

The Light Blues saw 2 bids, including one worth £500,000, knocked back for the 24-year-old as Hearts held out for £1million.

With Walker’s deal at the Tynecastle club set to end in the summer, Rangers were boosted by the fact that they could agree a pre-contract ahead of landing him for free this summer.

However, the attacking midfielder completed a £300,000 move to Wigan over the weekend, dealing a heavy blow on Rangers’ hopes.

The Light Blues are in need of attacking recruitments, and Walker, who scored 40 goals in 181 appearances for Hearts, would have been a great addition.

An injury and uncertainty over his future during the Rangers transfer saga limited him to just 19 games and 2 goals this term.

Rangers have secured the signing of 2 players – Jamie Murphy from Brighton and Sean Goss from QPR – on loan thus far this window, but manager Graeme Murty is still looking to get more deals over the line.
