The Sun reports that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is chasing Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba.
Mbemba arrived at St James Park from Anderlecht back in 2015 after glittering performances in Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
However, this season he has fallen out of favor with club’s manager Rafael Benitez, and January move seems like a probable solution for both parts.
Marvin Compper already arrived at Celtic Park earlier this month, but Rodgers wants to bring another defender, as Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko are both listed on the market, and their departure is expected by the end of January.
Celtic are set to face Zenit St Petersburg in the knockout stage of the Europa League, and they would need all the help they can get to enhance their chances to go through the next round.
The Hoops will have a competitor for Mbemba’s signature, as Anderlecht are also reported to be interested in bringing the former player back at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.
