Shearer has sent warning to £15million ex-Everton man

Alan Shearer has told Ross Barkley and he needs to prove himself at Chelsea after completing his move from Everton to Stamford Bridge on Friday.

Barkley will now be hoping to become a regular in Antonio Conte’s side and hopefully play as regularly as possible during the second half of the season in order to try and win a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Barkley has not as yet played this season due to a hamstring problem and it remains to be seen when he will make his debut for the West London club.

Speaking to BBC Sport on Friday night, Shearer said: “We have been talking about Ross for a number of years saying ‘what a talent’, now he has the chance to prove that. Whether he will play is another matter.”

The Blues are currently in third position on the Premier League standings.
