Rangers appear set to land Norwich right-back and top January transfer target Russell Martin as the 32-year-old has confirmed he is leaving Carrow Road this month.
When asked about his future ahead of Norwich’s FA Cup clash against Chelsea on Saturday, the Scottish fullback replied: “I’m not sure where the destination is but the likelihood is I will go out on loan.”
Manager Graeme Murty wants to boost his backline, and has identified the Scotland international, capable of also playing as a centre-back, as a top target.
Despite being offered a contract extension during the summer, Martin has found himself on the fringe of the first-team at the English Championship outfit, and it’s understood a loan move to Ibrox could be on the cards.
With over 280 league appearances across the top 4 English football divisions under his belt, the long-term Rangers target is a veteran as they come, and his experience should make him a great addition.
The right-back and centre-back departments can do with more legs going into the remainder of the campaign, and that Martins represents a 2-in-1 package is a huge plus for Rangers.
With the opportunity to start playing more regularly beckoning, it’s perhaps only a matter of time before the 29-cap Scotland international completes a temporary Ibrox switch.
