Noel Whelan has blasted Leeds United following their FA Cup elimination at the hands of Newport County.
The Whites entered the third round match against the League Two club as the favourites and were expected to win.
The Yorkshire giants did manage to take the lead after just nine minutes when Gaetano Berardi put them ahead.
However Conor Shaughnessy scored an own goal which allowed Newport to equalize during the 76th minute before Shawn McCoulsky made it 2-1 during the 89th minute.
Thomas Christiansan’s side ended off the game with just 10 men after Samuel Saiz was sent off during the first minute of injury time.
Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was angry following the match, and he told BBC Radio Leeds at full time, “I don’t think the word disgraceful would be too bad a word to use right now. Terrible, terrible. It’s a disgraceful result for Leeds United as a club.”
