Dedryck Boyata has admitted that he considered leaving Celtic in January 2016. Boyata has been on the books of the Hoops since January 2015 and was then manager Ronny Diela’s first signing.
The Belgium international initially struggled to earn regular game time when he arrived at the club under Brendan Rodgers and he has admitted that he considered leaving the club.
The former Manchester City man however eventually opted to remain with the Hoops and he has since gone on to establish himself as an important first team player for the squad.
Boyata told The Scottish Sun: “When you look back, it’s been a great year. I’d played a lot of games until an injury setback — but after I got back in, I stayed there.
“Going into the last winter break though, I had only played one game. So I thought January was the time to go and seek football somewhere else. But it never got to the point where I sat down with the manager to discuss what to do.”
Celtic are doing well this season and look set to win yet another Scottish Premiership title.
